OLAM: Alien Periodic Table
Nov 2018
GOAL: given made-up elements and their properties, organize a periodic table and create a textbook chapter explaining the periodic trends and differences with the real periodic table
SKILLS: chemistry, graphic design, problem solving, collaboration
This was a partner project from Chemistry Honors. We were given a list of made-up elements from an “alien planet” and their properties and tasked to create a periodic table for these elements, as well as a textbook explaining our placement and the applications of it. For example, the electron orbitals on this planet hold three electrons, which we denoted with three arrows radially spaced 120° apart (instead of the normal two electrons per orbital configuration).
